ScienceCinema & Department of Energy videos

ScienceCinema, a new site providing access to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) multimedia presentations, allows users to locate precise points in DOE videos where certain words or phrases are spoken.

For example: a search for "oil spill" provides six videos, the most recent of which is "Oil, Water, and Wildlife: The Gulf of Mexico Disaster and Related Environmental Issues" (8/4/2010).

Once you retrieve your search results, you can then click on the exact point at which your chosen phrase, "oil spill," is heard. In other words, you won't have to wade through lengthy recordings to find the content you need.

How does it work? The site uses special audio indexing and speech recognition technology developed by Microsoft Research.
